Beyond Decibels: A Soundscape-Based Policy Framework for Urban Noise Pollution in Madison, Wisconsin
Environmental Policy (GEOG 377): A policy analysis that reviews U.S. federal noise pollution regulations using Madison as a case study. By comparing Madison’s decibel-based ordinance with soundscape research, this project argues for renewed federal funding and coordination to support equitable, proactive noise governance.
Geography Research: A spatial and demographic analysis of cycling safety perceptions in Marburg, based on a community-distributed online survey. The project visualizes responses through heat mapping and DBSCAN cluster analysis.
Urban Geography (GEOG 470): A mock redevelopment proposal for a real brownfield site in Manitowoc’s River Point District. The project considers community needs, riverfront access, urban design, and district identity in a post-industrial redevelopment context.
Cultural Immersion (GEOG 366): An ArcGIS StoryMap and on-site observation analysis of public art in Helsinki’s built environment, developed during a 22-day cultural immersion. The project asks how a society that values art reflects that value in public space, and how those choices shape social sustainability.
Climatology (GEOG 340): A climate justice analysis of flood risk along the Rock River corridor, focusing on Janesville, Beloit, and Rockford. The project uses FEMA flood hazard data, historical redlining maps, ACS demographic data, and orthoimagery to examine how flooding intersects with race, class, and industrial history.
Field Seminar (GEOG 368): A mock grant proposal for researching Culdesac Tempe as a car-free housing model within a car-dependent metropolitan region. The proposal outlines research questions, data collection methods, intellectual merit, broader impacts, and a project budget.
